The Patrol is the answer when the group is too big for a regular SUV: seven seats, three bags, rear air-conditioning, ISOFIX anchors and a panoramic sunroof. Adaptive cruise and lane assist take the effort out of the drive across to Fujairah and the east-coast beaches, or a weekend in the Hatta mountains, while blind-spot monitoring helps back in city traffic.
The minimum rental is two days (AED 998). A week costs AED 3,500 – virtually the same as seven days at AED 499 – but comes with a 1,800 km allowance. The best value is the month: AED 10,999 with 4,500 km, about AED 367 a day and AED 3,971 less than 30 daily rentals. Extra kilometres are AED 4, each Salik toll gate is AED 7, and 5% VAT is added.

Rental terms
Kilometres
Allowance: 250 km on the daily rate, 1,800 km on the weekly rate, 4,500 km on the monthly rate. Above the allowance you pay AED 4 per km. For scale: Dubai to Abu Dhabi and back is roughly 280 km.
Fuel
Like for like: bring the car back with the fuel level you received it with. If it comes back lower, the company refuels it and bills you, usually above pump price.
Security deposit
AED 2,000, blocked on your credit card rather than charged and released within 30 days of the return. A deposit paid by debit card, cash or transfer comes back by manual refund, which takes longer.
Rental rules
Basic insurance is part of the price; full cover with a lower excess is usually an extra.
Shortest rental: 2 days.
A rental day is 24 hours from pick-up, so a return that is an hour late can cost a full extra day. Handing the car back early may change the rate you pay.
