Not every Dubai trip needs a statement car. The Seltos is a sensible grey 2022 crossover with a 1.6-litre petrol engine and automatic gearbox – easy to park at Mall of the Emirates and roomy enough for three suitcases from the airport.
Pricing is refreshingly low: AED 80 a day with 250 km (minimum two days), AED 480 for a week with 1,400 km, or AED 1,650 for a month with 4,500 km – around AED 55 a day for residents between cars. If you go over the allowance, extra kilometres cost just AED 0.5. Salik gates are AED 5 each; 5% VAT is added and basic insurance is included.
Drift Rent a Car takes an AED 1,000 deposit, refunded within 30 days, and has a zero-deposit option. Drivers aged 18 and over can rent, paying by cash or card. The office in Al Shafar Tower 1, Barsha Heights, is open 24/7; collection is free, and delivery to areas such as The Greens, Business Bay or Downtown can be requested. Rental terms
Kilometres
Allowance: 250 km on the daily rate, 1,400 km on the weekly rate, 4,500 km on the monthly rate. Above the allowance you pay AED 0.5 per km. For scale: Dubai to Abu Dhabi and back is roughly 280 km.
Fuel
Like for like: bring the car back with the fuel level you received it with. If it comes back lower, the company refuels it and bills you, usually above pump price.
Security deposit
AED 1,000, blocked on your credit card rather than charged and released within 30 days of the return. To skip the deposit, ask for the zero-deposit option: a one-off fee that is not refunded. A deposit paid by debit card, cash or transfer comes back by manual refund, which takes longer.
Rental rules
Basic insurance is part of the price; full cover with a lower excess is usually an extra.
Shortest rental: 2 days.
A rental day is 24 hours from pick-up, so a return that is an hour late can cost a full extra day. Handing the car back early may change the rate you pay.
