Family Road Trips from Dubai: A 7-Seater Guide
Dubai is a brilliant base for family days out: theme parks, mountains, wildlife and beaches all sit within a two-hour drive. With a roomy 7-seater and a bit of planning, the journey becomes part of the adventure rather than the hard part.
The right car changes everything with children. Space for car seats, a boot that swallows buggies, coolboxes and beach gear, and enough rows that siblings are not elbow-to-elbow. Here are four family drives that reliably deliver, followed by the practical stuff that keeps the day calm.
Abu Dhabi theme parks (day trip)
The ~140 km run down Sheikh Zayed Road to Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, is the classic family expedition. Yas Island packs Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World (fully indoor and air-conditioned — a summer lifesaver), Yas Waterworld and SeaWorld into one compact area. Pick one park per visit; trying to do two with young kids ends in tears. Roughly an hour north, Ras Al Khaimah suits families with older, braver kids. Jebel Jais has the toboggan-style Jais Sledder and gentle viewpoints, while the beaches and desert resorts give younger ones sand and pools. Hatta Wadi Hub
The ~130 km mountain run to Hatta is a favourite for active families. Hatta Wadi Hub has kayaking, pedal boats on the turquoise dam, mountain biking and zip lines, and the cooler mountain air is a welcome change. Al Ain Zoo and the Garden City
Al Ain, about 90 minutes inland, is the gentlest of the four. Al Ain Zoo is large, shaded and well set up for pushchairs, and the Garden City’s oasis and parks make for relaxed strolling. Combine it with an easy summit drive up Jebel Hafeet for the view. Our Al Ain guide covers the stops.

Car seats and the law
The UAE requires young children to be properly restrained. As a general rule, use a rear-facing or forward-facing car seat appropriate to your child’s age and weight, and keep under-tens out of the front seat. Packing for a UAE family drive

Petrol stations across the UAE double as clean rest stops with toilets, cold drinks and snacks, and they are frequent on every major route — so you are never far from a break. On longer runs like Abu Dhabi or Al Ain, plan a stop roughly halfway to stretch legs and change nappies. Set off early: mornings are cooler, roads are quieter before the mid-morning build-up, and you bank the best hours of the day before naptime hits. Yes, carry them. The road to Hatta briefly passes close to the Oman border. You stay inside the UAE, but it is sensible to have ID for everyone in the car.
